- LaTanya is the owner of 71 Proof LLC, a spirits industry professional services enterprise based in Tallahassee, Florida. The services offered by 71 Proof include bar catering, bar consulting, Custom Cocktail Development and bar training. The mission of 71 Proof is to sponsor accountability-based customer interaction by providing responsible alcohol service and endorsing responsible alcohol consumption.
Tanya received her training in Bartending and Mixology from American Bartending School located in Tampa, Florida in July 2006. She has since attended numerous educational workshops including the 5th Annual Tales of the Cocktail celebration in New Orleans, where she volunteered to serve in different capacities. At Tales, she attended various seminars lead by the industry’s foremost experts while becoming privy to the most current industry trends. The Beverage Alcohol Resource (BAR) Program provided the highest level of training in Mixology currently. BAR is the Mixology equivalent of the Master of Wine and Master Sommelier training; LaTanya was selected among few to receive a full scholarship for the $3,500 course tuition.
Having been selected to serve as one of Grand Marnier’s Mixology Consultants for 2008, an inaugural participant in the Tales Cocktail Apprentice Program and one of the top 10 finalists in the Conde Nast Traveler Custom Cocktail Contest, LaTanya and 71 Proof are on the cutting edge of Mixology today. Tanya has been featured in the April 2007 issue of Essence Magazine as “The Side Hustle of the Month” and is one of Tallahassee’s “Women to Watch” according to the June/July issue of Tallahassee Woman magazine. Further, the Tallahassee Democrat featured LaTanya’s business savvy and acumen in a May 2007 Business section cover article where she had the chance to discuss her humble bartending beginnings. LaTanya received her formal education from Florida A&M University’s School of Business and Industry. In 2003, she was granted her Master of Business Administration degree with high honors and is currently pursuing a degree in Wines, Spirits and Beverage Management in preparation for the highly anticipated opening of her own cocktail lounge, Concept Cocktail Experience.
Tanya was born and raised in Miami, Florida where her mother and younger sister still reside. She is looked at by her peers as an influencer and trendsetter in the realm of beverage alcohol and is often solicited in a consultative capacity because of her passion and enthusiasm for the industry and can be reached at latanya@71ProofLLC.com for Mixology advice or recipe suggestions.

Cocktail Competition
Hey Guys!
As promised, I am posting the link to vote for your favorite Mixologist (yes, that really is a word!) in the cocktail competition sponsored by Grand Marnier and Conde Nast Traveler magazine where I am among the TOP 10 FINALISTS!!
The recipe I submitted is called CARIBBEAN GOLD and it is made with Grand Marnier, star fruit puree, passion fruit juice, egg white and edible gold. The winner will be determined by electronic voting so I hope to have your support in the campaign. Voting goes until July 21st and I will send out a friendly reminder for your vote on a regular basis (if you would prefer not to participate, no worries...pass this along and just let me know).
